Fun facts

• No two zebras share the same stripe pattern. Like fingerprints, they let you identify each individual within the herd.
• Their stripes ward off tsetse flies and horseflies. The pattern confuses those insects' visual system and cuts down bites.
• They live in family herds. A male leads a group of females and their foals, defending them from danger.
• They can run up to 65 km/h. And they hold the pace over long distances, zigzagging to shake off predators.
• They communicate with neighs, barks and snorts. Each sound carries a specific meaning within the herd.

Grant's zebra is a subspecies of the plains zebra. It lives across savannas and grasslands of East Africa: Kenya, Tanzania, southern Ethiopia, South Sudan and Uganda. It is the subspecies with the most individuals in the wild.
